I was the youngest child in a family of three raised on a small farm on the Canadian prairies. I loved school so much I eventually married the principal. Fifty years later I am still teacher's pet. Together we raised four children and are the grandparents of nine.
Hobbies and Interests
I am a very practical person who bakes, sews, grows gardens, helps friend hubby with do-it-yourself projects (we built two houses in our "spare" time) bakes some more, preserves, pickles, gardens some more and quilts during the winter. We have raised everything from kids to cosmos to cats on our suburban lot at the edge of a Canadian city.
Matters of Faith
Even as a child I leaned toward God, and treasured the intermittent connections my family had with a local church. As a teenager I made a serious commitment to follow God. Since that time I have been a practicing Christian. I have both a Certificate of Graduation in Continuing Education and an Adult Bible Study Certificate (Scofield) from Moody Bible Institute.
My husband and I have always attended small evangelical churches. Over the years I led neighborhood Bible studies, directed not so neighborly kids in a weekly club, donned a clown suit as the Vacation Bible School mascot "Rosco," warbled alto from the choir loft, decoded the preacher's hieroglyphics as church secretary and scrubbed toilets when the caretaker failed to show. More recently I have taught an adult Sunday School class and am past president of the Manitoba Christian Writers Association. It was here I crossed paths with Lynn Austin, who has gone on to become a very successful writer.
Writing Background
About the time our oldest son had acne and our youngest had diaper rash, I received my first book contract from Moody Press. While the toddlers played demolition derby over the manuscript with their toy cars, I hammered away on an old Underwood typewriter. The result, a women's devotional called Sunny Side Up, was on the Moody list in their Quiet Time Series for over 20 years. They also published four more of my books.
